[80ème Fête des fleurs]

Pictures from the 80th Bagnères-de-Luchon Flower Festival at the end of August. Floral floats parade through the town centre, bands perform and Miss Flower greets the crowd.

The Luchon Flower Festival is one of the great popular festivals of the South-West, attracting thousands of people to the town for four days. The origins of the festival date back to 1888, when the actor Maurice Froyez, a friend of the writer Edmond Rostand who was visiting Luchon, had the idea of importing the Provençal tradition of horse-riding to the spa town. One Sunday, on leaving the racecourse, he invited the carriage owners to put flowers on their carriages before returning to the Avenue d'Etigny. The flower festival was born.
