In 1950 the renowned cellist and conductor Pablo Casals presides the Floral Games of the Catalan Language in the city of Perpignan. Note: Floral Games, or poetic jousting in Catalan, which were instituted in 1859 in Barcelona and later banned in Spain in by the regime of Francisco Franco, were recovered in 1941 by the Catalans exiled in various places around the world.
